Introducing The New Sidewalk

Is this new sidewalk all about the hotness or what? Once the grass seed goes down, you just might think you're in the suburbs.

Nice! What an improvement. I can't wait until they get around to working on Marquette heading East towards Stoney Island, there are so many stretches where to call it a sidewalk is just not right. It'll happen, so much is changing in Woodlawn.

Nat my friend,
It took three long years of questioning & working to get this far. Frankly, if it weren't for the generosity of 5th ward alderman Leslie Hairston, this sidewalk wouldn't of happened at all. The school across the street always talks a good game about being a good neighbor but from my personal perspective have done little to back that good neighbor claim up.

They've already been saved a substantial amount of money by the city, let's see if they actually follow up and do the next section of sidewalk (from Blackstone to Dorechester) sometime before I hit menopause.

How did you go about it? Directly talking to the alderman and attending her meetings, or through a block club? Our block club is trying to become more active, and encourage attendance, and I would love to have good suggestions for how to improve our streets.

Nat,

It all starts with your alderman. He or she is critical in helping your negotiate the process. Why don't you throw me an e-mail and we can discuss it further.
